It originally started as a team of four colleagues, and after more than 15 years, our Control Tower in Romania has evolved into a key link within the organization. A strong, data-driven engine behind our operational processes and customer-focused approach. Today, the team consists of no fewer than 27 colleagues. This growth reflects not only the increasing complexity of our activities but also the trust in the department’s expertise.

Central hub
The Control Tower serves as the central hub within our operations. The team ensures coordination and visibility, enabling us to guarantee efficient workflows, respond quickly to incidents, and support decisions with data and insights. You can think of it as the nerve center of the logistics operation. They gather information from various systems and sources and consolidate everything into a single overview. This allows them to monitor everything in real time and intervene quickly if, for example, there is a temperature deviation or if alternative routes are needed, …

Over the years, the role of the Control Tower has evolved significantly. The initial focus was on monitoring and operational support, but the department has since grown into a true strategic partner. The team is involved from the very first phase of new projects and plays an active role in onboarding new partners. In this way, the Control Tower directly contributes to a smooth start-up and sustainable collaboration.

The strength of the team
Dombi Szilard has no doubt about what makes the Control Tower so strong: “The combination of flexibility, teamwork, and a strong solution-oriented mindset. The team adapts quickly, communicates clearly, and always stays calm under pressure,” he says. “We have to spot anomalies within large amounts of data. In other words: we have to find the needle in the haystack, and that requires a lot of precision and consistency.”

Working in a dynamic environment
Dombi: “Working in the Control Tower means new challenges every day. That’s what makes the job so exciting: analyzing problems, finding solutions, and making a difference. Because of that responsibility, our work is also very meaningful.

What the future holds
Our ambitions remain high for the future as well. The focus is on further automation, gaining even smarter insights, and strengthening Operational Excellence. Dombi: “For example, we’re also very much looking forward to the role AI will play within our domain. Artificial intelligence offers opportunities to further optimize processes and to reach better decisions even faster.”
