How Daniela leads her team in Moldova: 6 key concepts for authentic leadership
Since Daniela became our Country Manager in Moldova, she has developed a very clear vision on leadership. Authenticity is central to this. She was recently invited to speak about leadership at a business breakfast. An excellent opportunity to ask which principles she considers essential for authentic leadership.
Self-awareness
Daniela: “For me, authentic leadership starts with myself – being true to my values. Every year I take the time for an annual self-evaluation, during which I reflect on what went well, what could be improved, what I have learned, and what I will work on in the coming year. By writing down my thoughts, I ensure that my values correspond with my actions.
Communicate transparently
Daniela: “I believe in clearly framing changes, sharing successes and – just as importantly – admitting mistakes. This openness promotes trust and encourages my team to speak up when they face challenges, shifting the focus to finding solutions together.”
Active listening and empathy
Daniela: “I regularly have one-on-one conversations in which I try to understand my team, ask clarifying questions and offer support. Any feedback focuses on the situation, not the person. This is how you maintain the balance between leadership and humanity.”
Integrity
Daniela: “This is non-negotiable. I do what I say, and I say what I do. This is how you set a good example and build trust.”
Positivity
Daniela: ”A positive attitude is crucial. I personally write down what I am grateful for every night before going to sleep. It’s a small habit that gives me energy and focus, no matter how hard the day has been.”
Learning and development
Daniela: “Every morning during breakfast, I read a few pages from a book. Thanks to this routine, I have already finished two books this year and am now working on my third. I consistently share the insights and lessons I gain from the books with my team so they can also take steps in their personal development.”
