YOUCA vzw is organizing the YOUCA Action Day for the 16th time. More than 14,000 Flemish and Brussels youth commit to working for a company, an organization, a government or a private person today. The pay they earn, 55 EUR, will go to a strong youth project of Rikolto in Uganda, Burkina Faso and Ecuador and some projects in Belgium. In that context, Ismail is spending a day at H.Essers.

Who are you?

My name is Ismail Ajan. I am 15 years old, born in Enschede (Netherlands), and now live in Hemiksem. I am studying Business and Organization at Middle School Atheneum in Boom where I am currently in het vierde middelbaar.

Why are you here today?

My school is sending me to work at a company for Youca Action Day. My father works at H.Essers and of course my choice was quickly made. He talks a lot about everything H.Essers does, and today I get to see it with my own eyes. I hope to have a fun and enjoyable day and experience what it is like to work at H.Essers for a day.

Do you already know what you will be doing?

I don’t know exactly what I will be doing, but I think it will be mostly small jobs. So for me it’s a surprise. What I do know for sure, is that it will be an educational day for me. The most important thing about this day of course is that, together with H.Essers and the Youca organization, I can help the children on the other side of the world.

Of course I thank all the people at H.Essers who made this possible for me.
