Eline and Lucas about choosing H.Essers

This spring, just like last year, we organized the Get Recruited Days. During this event, young talents have the opportunity to learn more about our organization and showcase their skills through debates, business cases, and in-depth interviews. Eline De Winter and Lucas Pinxten participated, made a strong impression, and will start as Management Trainees at H.Essers on October 1. We asked them how they experienced that day.

Where did you first hear about the Get Recruited Day?

Lucas: “I first heard about the traineeship during my internship at H.Essers. My previous experience at the company left me wanting more, so this was the perfect opportunity.”

Eline: “I’d known for a while that I wanted to work in the Transport sector. That’s why I started looking into the major companies I was familiar with. H.Essers stood out to me, so I applied for the traineeship.

Why did you apply?

Lucas: “I look back on my internship at H.Essers with great pleasure. The educational environment and the great atmosphere back then have always stayed with me.”

Eline: “As I mentioned, H.Essers immediately stood out to me. The family-like atmosphere within the company, the fact that a strong woman is at the helm, and the one-year traineeship that is entirely focused on Transport were the ideal combination for me.”

What was your impression of H.Essers before the Get Recruited Day, and has that image changed?

Lucas: “Before the Get Recruited Day, I already knew that H.Essers was a company with a strong family atmosphere. I find that sense of commitment and openness very important. During the Get Recruited Day, this impression was only confirmed.”

Eline: “To me, H.Essers was a large logistics company where family values were still very much alive. That impression certainly hasn’t changed since Get Recruited Day. If anything, it’s been reinforced.”

What were your expectations for the Get Recruited Day?

Lucas: “I knew beforehand that it would be an interactive day, but other than that, the day was a mystery. I did assume there would be an assignment or case study where you’d have to present something or collaborate with others.”

Eline: “I went into Get Recruited Day without many expectations. I’d never done anything like this before, so I decided to just go with the flow.”

What did you think of the day itself? What did you enjoy most, and what was the most challenging?

Lucas: “What I especially liked was that we worked in a small group, so everyone really felt heard. I found the case study the most challenging, because you’re not always sure if you’re on the right track.”

Eline: “I thought it was a very unique experience. I found the business case, the tour, and the speed dates all super educational and interesting. The most challenging part for me was the debate, because I know I sometimes express my opinion a little too enthusiastically.”

Was it what you expected in the end?

Lucas: “The day exceeded my expectations because everything went very smoothly and the atmosphere was even more pleasant than I had anticipated.”

Eline: “I certainly didn’t expect to be able to speak with the Business Unit Managers right away. I was pleasantly surprised that they really took the time to talk with us.”

What are you most looking forward to as you start at H.Essers?

Lucas: “I’m especially looking forward to learning a lot and further developing myself, both professionally and personally. I’m also looking forward to getting to know my colleagues better and becoming part of the team.”

Eline: “I’m mostly looking forward to learning a lot and discovering how a large fleet is managed efficiently and how the large number of shipments are handled correctly.
